Job summary

Uniting NSW & ACT is seeking a First Nations Mental Health Support Worker for the Newcastle Region. You will visit consumers in their homes and local community, delivering tailored psychosocial support and helping them progress toward recovery goals, independence and community connection.

You will collaborate with First Nations individuals, families and services to improve access to culturally safe support, and work with clinicians and community organisations to remove barriers to care and

Qualifications

• Aboriginality is required for this identified position in NSW under anti-discrimination provisions.
• Ability to provide evidence of Aboriginality per Uniting recruitment guidelines.
• Strong connections with First Nations communities and knowledge of significant dates.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized psychosocial support to people living with mental health challenges.
• Develop and review recovery plans and goals with consumers.
• Support independence and daily living skills.
• Build relationships with consumers, families, clinicians and community organisations.
• Assist First Nations consumers to strengthen cultural connection and improve access to culturally safe services.
• Document progress notes, assessments and reports in a timely manner.
