Job summary

JP Smith Recruitment is seeking a Financial Controller for a Dalby-based not-for-profit organisation. The role combines strategic financial leadership with governance, reporting and compliance, supporting sustainability and funding diversification.

You will oversee budgeting, cash flow, and financial risk while guiding a finance team and delivering timely statements to the CEO and Board. A two-day-per-week WFH arrangement is available.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce or related field.
• CPA, CA or equivalent preferred but not essential.
• A functional home office to enable two days per week WFH.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for CEO, Board and executive team.
• Oversee budgeting and monitor performance against budgets.
• Manage cash flow, investments and financial risk.
• Provide strategic financial advice, modelling and scenario analysis.
• Ensure governance, controls, policies and systems are in place.
• Coordinate annual financial statements and external audits.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, funding agreements and taxation.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Financial Controller is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the organisation’s financial systems, reporting, compliance and financial governance.

About the role:

As the Financial Controller, your responsibilities include:

• Lead the organisation’s financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting;
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to the CEO, Board and executive team;
• Oversee budgeting processes and monitor performance against budgets;
• Manage cash flow, investments and financial risk;
• Provide strategic financial advice, modelling and scenario analysis to support planning and growth;
• Identify financial risks and opportunities to support long‑term sustainability and funding diversification;
• Ensure financial governance, controls, policies and systems are in place;
• Prepare annual financial statements and coordinate the external audits;
• Ensure compliance with legislation, funding agreements, reporting standards and taxation obligations;
• Support the CEO with insurance management and claims;
• Monitor financial performance and reporting of government‑funded programs and service agreements;
• Provide financial oversight of funding and service delivery budgets;
• Lead, supervise and develop your finance team; and
• Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, data integrity and reporting efficiency.

Essential Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce or related field.
• CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification with current membership is preferred but not essential.
• A functional home office in order to work from home two days per week.
