Job summary

JP Smith in Dalby, QLD, is seeking a Financial Controller to lead accounting, budgeting and reporting across government-funded programs. You will partner with the CEO and Board, drive financial governance and risk management, and oversee the finance team to ensure strong controls and efficient reporting.

The role requires tertiary accounting/finance qualifications with preferred CPA/CA, and the ability to work from home two days per week as part of Hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Qualification: Tertiary degree in accounting, finance or commerce.
  • Professional qualification (CPA/CA) preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in not-for-profit sector is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of governance, compliance and reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organisation’s financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to the CEO, Board and executive team.
  • Oversee budgeting processes and monitor performance against budgets.
  • Manage cash flow, investments and financial risk.
  • Provide strategic financial advice, modelling and scenario analysis to support planning and growth.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities to support long-term sustainability and funding diversification.
  • Ensure financial governance, controls, policies and systems are in place.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and coordinate the external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, funding agreements, reporting standards and taxation obligations.
  • Support the CEO with insurance management and claims.
  • Monitor financial performance and reporting of government-funded programs and service agreements.
  • Provide financial oversight of funding and service delivery budgets.
  • Lead, supervise and develop your finance team; and
  • Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, data integrity and reporting efficiency.

  • Knowledge of financial governance, compliance and accounting standards.
  • Financial analysis and modelling skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Highly organised with excellent time management.
  • Well-developed systems, processes and computer skills.
Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce or related field.
  • CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification with current membership is preferred but not essential.
  • A functional home office in order to work from home two days per week.
