Job summary

Access Metal Recycling is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee the finance and accounting function and provide trusted commercial advice to the owner and senior management. This leadership role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution to drive growth and operational decision-making.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CA or CPA qualification, or equivalent senior-level experience.
• Significant experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, CFO or similar senior finance professional.
• Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management skills.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
• Experience with accounting/ERP systems and an interest in improving systems and processes.
• Strong understanding of inventory, working capital and asset-intensive operations.
• The ability to analyse financial information and turn it into clear, practical recommendations.
• Excellent attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger commercial picture.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with owner, managers, banks and external advisers.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and presenting monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting.
• Developing annual budgets, forecasts and financial models.
• Managing cash flow, working capital and banking requirements.

• Providing meaningful analysis of margins, costs and profitability.
• Developing financial reporting by business activity, customer, product and/or site where appropriate.

• Managing inventory accounting, stock reconciliations and valuation processes.
• Monitoring capital expenditure and maintaining appropriate fixed‑asset controls.
• Reviewing equipment and capital investment proposals and assisting management with return‑on‑investment analysis

As Financial Controller, you will have oversight of the company's finance and accounting function and will be a trusted commercial adviser to the owner and senior management team. This is a key leadership position for someone who enjoys being both strategic and hands-on. Working closely with the owner and management team, you will take responsibility for the financial management, reporting and commercial performance of the business while providing the financial insight required to support growth and operational decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

Access Metal Recycling is a family‑owned Australian recycling company servicing customers throughout NSW and the ACT. We specialise in collecting and recycling scrap metal from farms, industrial facilities, commercial businesses and mining operations.

You will be supported by an existing accounting team responsible for the day‑to‑day finance functions, allowing you to focus on financial leadership, reporting, commercial analysis and helping management make better business decisions.
