Job summary

Morson Edge Australia in Western Sydney is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the end-to-end finance function. This hands-on role combines day-to-day financial management with commercial reporting, cashflow forecasting and project profitability.

Financial Controller Western Sydney | $120,000–$140,000 + Super Full-Time | On-Site

An opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on Financial Controller to join an established business operating within the construction and project delivery sector. This is a broad, autonomous position offering ownership of the finance function, combining day‑to‑day financial management with commercial reporting, cashflow forecasting and project profitability. We are particularly interested in candidates with recent experience in construction‑related businesses, fabrication, fit‑out, building products or environments combining product supply with project delivery.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing the end‑to‑end finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial controls and strong visibility over business and project performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing day‑to‑day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and reconciliations
• Preparing monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cashflow reporting
• Managing month‑end and year‑end processes, including accruals and intercompany transactions
• Overseeing financial operations across multiple entities
• Preparing budgets, forecasts and cashflow projections
• Monitoring work in progress (WIP), job costing, project margins and profitability
• Managing financial reporting relating to progress claims, retentions and project expenditure
• Overseeing payroll and ensuring compliance with financial and statutory requirements
• Providing financial analysis and commercial insights to support business decisions
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and internal controls

About You

We are seeking a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys being actively involved in the day‑to‑day operations of a business. Ideally, you will bring:

• Recent experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a similar senior finance position
• Experience within construction, fabrication, fit‑out, building products or another project‑based operational environment
• Strong technical accounting skills, including financial reporting, budgeting, cashflow management and month‑end processes
• Demonstrated experience with WIP, job costing, project accounting and profitability reporting
• An understanding of operational costs, including materials, labour and subcontractor expenditure
• Experience managing end‑to‑end finance functions, ideally across multiple entities
• The ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for both transactional and management accounting
• Strong commercial awareness and confidence working closely with senior stakeholders
• Experience within a business combining manufacturing or fabrication with project delivery would be particularly advantageous.
