Job summary

Starbucks Australia is seeking a Finance Manager to lead the integrity and timely delivery of financial reporting and statutory compliance. The role oversees the finance function, strengthening controls and driving improvements across processes and systems.

The ideal candidate will have CA/CPA, strong accounting expertise, and experience managing multi-site operations. Hybrid work arrangements apply as the team supports stores nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end month-end reporting process, including trial balance review and close activities.
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial results with robust controls.
• Prepare and distribute monthly management reporting packs with insights into performance.
• Manage balance sheet reconciliations and identify financial risks and opportunities.
• Lead the business support team across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
• Coordinate and support audit processes and external audit liaison.

Job Description

The Finance Manager is responsible for the integrity, accuracy and timely delivery of financial reporting, statutory compliance and core finance operations. The role leads the business support team, strengthens financial controls, supports effective decision-making through meaningful analysis, and drives process and system improvements across the finance function.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Reporting

• Own the end-to-end month-end reporting process, including review of the trial balance,journal processing, variance analysis and coordination of close activities.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial results through detailed review, analysisand appropriate financial controls.
• Prepare and distribute monthly management reporting packs, providing clear insightsinto business performance.
• Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and addressingfinancial risks and opportunities.
• Maintain a clear month-end close timetable, ownership framework and escalationprocess to support timely and accurate reporting.
• Provide timely advice and recommendations to the CFO, escalating material financialrisks, control issues and reporting concerns where required.

Team Leadership

• Lead and develop the business support team across Accounts Payable, AccountsReceivable and Payroll.
• Manage team priorities, workloads, performance and professional development.
• Drive process improvements, system enhancements and operational efficienciesacross the finance function.
• Build team capability and role coverage to strengthen continuity across critical financeactivities.

Tax & Compliance

• Manage taxation responsibilities, including GST, Fringe Benefits Tax and income taxrequirements.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.
• Coordinate and prepare Payment Times Reporting submissions.

Audit & Statutory Reporting

• Manage interim and year-end audit processes.
• Prepare financial statements and supporting docmentation.
• Process year-end adjustments and liaise with external auditors to support successfulaudit completion within agreed timelines.

Business Partnering

• Provide analysis and commentary on actual performance against budget.
• Support stakeholders with financial reporting and budget queries, providing clear andpractical advice.
• Partner with budget owners to improve financial understanding, forecast accuracy andaccountability for results.

Fixed Assets & Capital Expenditure

• Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure compliance with applicable accountingstandards.
• Support capital expenditure management for new stores, refurbishments and ad hocprojects.
• Assess and advise on the appropriate treatment of capital versus operatingexpenditure.
• Strengthen financial controls, documentation and governance across capitalexpenditure and fixed asset processes

Qualifications

Required Experience

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
• Experience managing audits, taxation and statutory reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing finance teams.
• Experience working in a multi-site retail, hospitality or similarly complex operatingenvironment is desirable

We’ve based in Collingwood, with expansive end-of-trip facilities (all shower amenities soaps & towels included), concierge services with dry-cleaning and parcel collection provided, and current building works for our very own Starbucks café on-site. We work on a hybrid model with 3 days in office, 2 from home.
