Job summary

Employ Global is seeking an early career Field Application Engineer to test and support next‑generation smart farm machines in Western Australia or New South Wales. In this hands‑on role you will work directly with field equipment, diagnose issues, and relay clear feedback to engineering teams.

You will travel regularly to farms and test sites within your region, collaborating with international colleagues and gaining experience across mechanical, electrical, software, and machine vision domains.

Our client is a fast-growing pioneer in agricultural robotics. They design and build autonomous farm machines that use computer vision and machine learning to help farmers understand and manage fields at a plant-by-plant level.

As an independent subsidiary of a global agricultural machinery leader, they combine the pace of a technology startup with the resources to bring new products to farms at scale. Their mission is to improve food production and farm profitability while reducing pesticide use.

The opportunity

We are looking for an early career Field Application Engineer to test and support next-generation smart farm machines in Western Australia or New South Wales.

You will work directly with equipment in the field, help diagnose technical issues, and share clear feedback with the engineering team. This is an opportunity to build practical experience across agricultural machinery, software, electronics, and machine vision. You will receive support from experienced colleagues as you develop your skills.

The role involves regular travel to farms and test sites within your region and may include interstate or international collaboration.

What you will do

• Help plan and carry out hardware, software, and machine vision tests on agricultural machinery.
• Set up and calibrate testing equipment, collect field data, and document results.
• Investigate electrical, mechanical, and software issues, working with experienced colleagues on more complex problems.
• Speak with customers and field teams to understand how equipment performs in everyday use.
• Share findings with product, agronomy, and engineering teams to help improve the machinery.
• Help prepare troubleshooting notes, product documentation, and user guides.
• Track technical issues and contribute to their resolution.

What you will bring

Essential

• A degree, diploma, trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience in engineering, mechatronics, computer science, agriculture, or a related technical field.
• Practical exposure to machinery, electronics, robotics, software, or technical field testing. This may come from employment, an apprenticeship, an internship, university projects, or your own technical projects.
• A methodical approach to troubleshooting and a willingness to learn across mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
• The ability to explain technical observations clearly to colleagues and customers.
• A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel regularly to agricultural sites.

Helpful, but not essential

• Experience with agricultural machinery or precision agriculture.
• Familiarity with Linux or basic Python scripting.
• Exposure to sensors, cameras, machine vision, or autonomous systems.
• Experience documenting tests or working with CAD software.

Field work

This is a hands-on outdoor role. Work at farms and test sites can involve moving around large machinery, setting up equipment, and working in varying weather conditions. We will discuss the practical requirements of the role with candidates and consider reasonable adjustments.
