Job summary

Key Assets Australia seeks a Family Services Practitioner to promote the wellbeing of vulnerable children and families, delivering early intervention and prevention support. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will work closely with families, perform home visits, assessments, and develop targeted support plans.

You will bring a recognised Social Work qualification, strong experience with children and families, and the ability to prepare clear reports.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of child protection, court orders and family services frameworks.
• Experience conducting comprehensive assessments and developing support plans.
• Ability to produce clear, concise reports, letters and memos.

Responsibilities

About the role:

Reporting to the Team Manager / Family Services Senior Practitioner, the Family Services Practitioner will play a key role in promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people. The successful applicant will work closely with families, offering early intervention and prevention support to reduce risks to children, strengthen family capabilities, and improve outcomes for both children and their families.

Some key responsibilities include:

• Actively engage children, youth and families through home visits, phone contact, and meetings.
• Provide targeted support to priority groups, including infants, young children, adolescents, people with disabilities, and those experiencing family violence.
• Evaluate the needs, risks and safety of families, and develop targeted, time-limited goals and interventions.
• Ensure all safety checks are completed promptly and in accordance with relevant procedures and guidelines.

About you:

You’re passionate about improving the lives of children and supporting family preservation through early intervention. You will be confident in providing a family-centred, strength-based approach to parenting support, ultimately resulting in capacity-building for participants.

Additionally, you will have:

• Recognised Social Work qualification (or similar).
• Proven track record working with or on behalf of children, young people, and families.
• Strong understanding of child and family service, child protection and court orders.
• Experience conducting comprehensive assessments to create, implement, monitor, and evaluate service delivery and support plans.
• Demonstrated experience in assessing parenting capacity.
• Strong ability to compose clear, accurate and concise reports, letters, and memos.
• Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and frameworks in child protection services.
