Job summary

Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra is seeking a Facilities & Assets Support Officer to maintain and operate buildings, infrastructure and assets across the Gardens. You will work as part of a team on both planned and reactive maintenance, developing site knowledge and applying sound judgment on requests.

The role involves coordinating contractors, liaising with stakeholders, and contributing to safety, risk management and day-to-day operations in a busy garden environment.

Qualifications

• Role requires hands-on facilities and assets maintenance, including coordination with contractors.
• Site knowledge development and sound judgment in responding to maintenance requests.

Responsibilities

• Undertake facilities and asset maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs and maintenance works to buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, equipment and associated infrastructure. Identify and report maintenance requirements and assist with coordinating and completing approved works.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding maintenance requests, operational issues and facilities related activities, and provide relevant information to support operational decision making.
• Under general direction, undertake a range of facilities, asset and infrastructure maintenance activities including carpentry, painting, paving, plumbing, irrigation and other trade related works, and assist with the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, lighting and pumping infrastructure systems.
• Coordinate site access, inductions and day to day liaison with contractors undertaking maintenance and repair works, and assist supervisors with contractor engagement activities as required.
• Operate and maintain workshop facilities safely and efficiently, and read interpret and work from technical drawings, plans and specifications.
• Share in rostered on-call duties to support site operational needs out of standard working hours.
• Undertake the safe use, routine inspection and maintenance of plant and equipment in accordance with ANBG policies, procedures and manufacturer requirements.
• Apply Australian National Botanic Gardens WHS policies and procedures and participate in hazard identification, risk assessment and incident reporting activities as required.
