Job summary

The Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) in Canberra is seeking a Facilities & Assets Support Officer to maintain buildings, assets and infrastructure across the ANBG site. You will work as part of a team, undertake maintenance tasks, and coordinate with contractors to support planned and reactive works.

The successful candidate will develop site knowledge, apply WHS policies, read technical drawings, and share on-call duties to support operations outside standard hours.

The Job

The Facilities & Assets Support Officer supports the maintenance and operation of buildings, infrastructure and assets across the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Working as part of a team and under general direction, the position undertakes maintenance activities, assists with contractor coordination and contributes to both planned and reactive maintenance works. The successful candidate will develop site knowledge over time and apply sound judgement when responding to maintenance requests and operational priorities.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Undertake facilities and asset maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs and maintenance works to buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, equipment and associated infrastructure. Identify and report maintenance requirements and assist with coordinating and completing approved works.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding maintenance requests, operational issues and facilities related activities, and provide relevant information to support operational decision making.
• Under general direction, undertake a range of facilities, asset and infrastructure maintenance activities including carpentry, painting, paving, plumbing, irrigation and other trade related works, and assist with the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, lighting and pumping infrastructure systems.
• Coordinate site access, inductions and day to day liaison with contractors undertaking maintenance and repair works, and assist supervisors with contractor engagement activities as required.
• Operate and maintain workshop facilities safely and efficiently, and read interpret and work from technical drawings, plans and specifications.
• Share in rostered on-call duties to support site operational needs out of standard working hours.
• Undertake the safe use, routine inspection and maintenance of plant and equipment in accordance with ANBG policies, procedures and manufacturer requirements.
• Apply Australian National Botanic Gardens WHS policies and procedures and participate in hazard identification, risk assessment and incident reporting activities as required.
