Job summary

University of New South Wales in Sydney, NSW, is seeking an External Communications Officer (EDI). The role drives engagement around equity, diversity and inclusion and crafts messaging for staff, students, media and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, you’ll translate complex topics into clear, impactful communications with data-driven insights. Hybrid working from Kensington, NSW, and a 1-year continuing contract with a strong emphasis on media relations, content creation

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and depth of subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Experience assisting with developing, delivering and measuring external communications and branding programs within large and complex organisations.
  • Proven ability to distill complex information into straightforward messages for diverse stakeholders.
  • Liaising effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, and developing new initiatives with creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Advanced computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications and databases (CRM).

Remuneration: $118k-$128k (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading


Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Working)

The Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (SIEE) is responsible for supporting a diverse and inclusive staff and student community and working with partner communities and broader society towards positive change. The Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement is also responsible for several KPIs for staff and student equity


Why Your Role Matters

We're seeking Communications Officers (EDI) to drive engagement around UNSW's equity, diversity and inclusion agenda. In this dynamic role, you'll create and share compelling communications that engage staff, students, media and key stakeholders, helping to amplify the impact of our EDI initiatives across the University and beyond. From developing engaging content to managing publications and communications campaigns, you'll play a key role in shaping how our EDI story is told.


Reporting to the Head of Communications, you'll use your expertise in public relations, communications or journalism to craft messages that inspire and inform.


Day-to-day focus will be:


  • Developing and delivering compelling, audience-focused communications that promote UNSW initiatives across internal and external channels.

  • Providing expert communications advice to stakeholders, ensuring messages are effectively targeted, aligned with UNSW's brand, and delivered through the most appropriate channels.

  • Supporting media relations, content creation and campaign delivery, including media enquiries, media releases, PR activities, launches, awards and key University initiatives.

  • Coordinating communications performance, leverage insights to drive continuous improvement, and support the development and distribution of key University publications and reports

  • Supporting the broader activities of the Corporate Communications team


Who you are:

As an experienced communications professional with a strong track record delivering engaging internal and external communications. You are confident in translating complex information into clear, impactful messaging, using data-driven insights to enhance communication outcomes and champion equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • A relevant tertiary qualification and a depth of subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience assisting with developing, delivering and measuring external communications and branding programs within large and complex organisations.

  • Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into straight forward messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders, in support of strategic goals.

  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, and exercise creativity and enthusiasm in the development of new initiatives.

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders.

  • Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and databases (e.g. CRM).
