Job summary

Gunnedah Shire Council is seeking a motivated finance professional for a permanent part-time role focused on creditors and payments. The role offers flexible days (2 or 3), an attractive hourly rate, and pro-rata leave entitlements.

You will support the Finance team with timely creditor payments and compliance with GST and FBT. The successful applicant will work 15 hours per week with a mix of days, and may receive relocation and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in accounts payable and reconciliation.
  • Certificate III Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • Strong computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team with good communication.
  • Understanding of GST and taxation principles is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Input and reconcile creditor invoices.
  • Certify purchase orders and attach documentation for signing.
  • Reconcile creditor statements and follow up on invoices.
  • Process contractors and royalty payments.
  • Prepare claims for Councillor meetings and travel expenditures.
  • Ensure timely receipt of creditor documentation from Council Officers.
  • Assist in bank reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Process GST related documentation and direct debits.

Salary Range: Grade 8-9 ( $37.15 - $43.09/hour + 12% Superannuation)

Our Next Expenditure Officer

Reporting to the Senior Expenditure Officer, this permanent part-time role will focus on ensuring Council's creditors are paid correctly and on time within Council's Purchasing Terms & Conditions Policy. You will also be responsible for assisting internal customers in timely payment of creditors, respond to creditor enquiries in a professional manner and ensure full compliance with taxation legislations such as GST and FBT.

With flexible working days and hours, the successful candidate will work either 2 days at 7.5hrs/day or 3 days at 5 hrs/day with ideal days of work being Tuesday and Thursday (Open to the availability of the successful candidate).

Key Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Computer input and reconciliation of creditors.
  • Certify computer produced purchase orders and obtain all relevant certifications, attach cheque/EFT and submit for signing.
  • Reconciliation of creditor statements and follow-up outstanding invoices.
  • Processing of contractors and royalty payments.
  • Prepare claims and payments for Councillor meeting attendances and travel expenses.
  • Ensure creditors documentation completed by Council Officers are received on a timely basis.
  • Provide assistance and relief to staff in the Finance department of Council as required and undertake other tasks as required to meet the desired outcomes of the department. (For Example: Bank Reconciliation, Journal entry).
  • Process appropriate documentation returns in accordance with GST legislation.
  • Process direct debits on Bank statements to creditors system.
  • Assist in the preparation and lodgement of various taxation returns to meet legislative requirements including but not limited to BAS, FBT, and Payroll Tax.
  • End of Month close off of Civica Accounts Payable.
  • Goods Receipting of Purchase orders.
  • Processing of rates, water, debtor and trust refunds.
  • Undertake tasks in a manner that ensures complete and accurate financial records are captured and maintained within the appropriate systems and in accordance with Legislation, Council Policies, Management Directives and Procedures.
  • Other duties as allocated from time to time.
  • Provide quality administration support as required.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

To be successful you willhave prior experience and knowledge in accounts payable and reconciliation processes. Certificate III Business Administration or equivalent experience will be highly regarded. Candidates who have strong computer skills and data input experience also will be highly regarded. Ability to work as part of a diverse team, good communication and public relation skills and problem solving skills will see the successful candidate perform well in this role. The successful candidate will also have an eye for detail, exercise diligence and ensure compliance with Council's policies and procedures.

Key requirements for this position include:

  • Knowledge of accounts payable and reconciliation procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Strong computer and data input skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good communication and public relations skills.
  • Self-motivated nature with demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to comply with Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management and Equal Opportunity principles.
  • Ability and continued commitment to work according to Councils’ policies and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision.
  • Current valid NSW Class C Drivers Licence (ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence).

  • Knowledge of taxation issues (FBT, GST).
