Job summary

Federation Council in Corowa, NSW, invites applications for a Manager Finance role. Based in Corowa, the position leads the Finance team and steers financial strategy across the Council area.

You will guide budgeting, modelling and reporting to fund essential services and community infrastructure, while partnering with executives on policy and long-term financial planning.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accounting/finance degree with CPA/CA membership or eligibility.
  • Experience leading teams and driving cultural change in a local government setting.
  • Strong knowledge of AASB, budgeting, statutory reporting and financial modelling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 10 and provide executive financial advice to Council.
  • Develop long-term financial models and translate data into strategic insights.
  • Ensure governance, regulatory compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with Executives and Leadership Team to align financial strategy with community needs.

  • Salary commencing from - $143,049 inclusive of superannuation
  • Salary may be negotiable for the right candidate

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an authentic, strategic, and resilient leader who brings:

  • Qualifications / Tertiary degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce, plus full membership (or eligibility) with CPA/CA.
  • Leadership strength with proven track record in leading teams, driving positive culture, and managing change.
  • Technical expertise and a deep understanding of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), statutory reporting, budgeting, and financial modelling.
  • Strategic thinking with ability to simplify complex financial data into actionable, high-level advice for executive stakeholders.
  • Communication & Influence with outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills with a strong customer focus.
  • Highly Regarded: Experience in Local Government, familiarity with the Local Government Act (NSW) 1993, and experience with systems like Civica Authority.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $70.17 per hour with progression up to $77.46 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
