South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a motivated Finance Business Analyst to join our Financial Team. The role focuses on supporting financial planning, reporting, and business partnering across Council, delivering insights for informed decisions and continuous improvement.

Key duties include budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting, with hybrid/flexible work options and a pro rata salary band.

  • Prepare financial journals, accruals and adjustments for accurate reporting.
  • Maintain knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government Act requirements.

Job description

  • Two-Year Fixed -Term, Part-Time (0.6 EFT)
  • Band 6, $56,798 (pro rata) + 12% Superannuation
  • Flexible and hybrid work options available

South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a motivated and analytical Finance Business Analyst to join our Financial Team.

This role plays a key part in supporting financial planning, reporting, and business partnering activities across Council. You will work closely with Managers, Directors, and senior leaders to provide financial insight, budgeting support, forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting that supports informed decision making. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, analysing financial data and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within a complex and diverse organisation.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Managers and Directors to provide financial advice, analysis and support informed decision making.
  • Support the preparation, monitoring and forecasting of annual budgets and financial performance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting tools and business systems.
  • Provide financial support to stakeholders during budget preparation, forecasting and other activities
  • Prepare financial journals, accruals and adjustments and contribute to accurate statutory and management reporting.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government Act requirements.
ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting (or currently studying) Commerce, Business or a related discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting forecasting and management reporting skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide financial support.
  • Advanced skills in using financial management systems
  • A customer focused and proactive approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering quality outcomes.
