Elevate Civil is seeking a skilled and experienced Excavator Operator to join our dynamic team in Newcastle, NSW. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in the successful delivery of our civil and earthworks projects. As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy excavation equipment safely and efficiently on various construction sites. This role is essential to maintaining our high standards of quality and safety whilst contributing to the timely completion of projects that shape our local infrastructure.

What you'll be doing

• Operating excavators and other heavy plant machinery on construction and earthworks sites in accordance with safety protocols and site requirements
• Performing pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition
• Excavating, moving and positioning soil, rock, and other materials as directed by site supervisors and project specifications
• Maintaining accurate records of equipment operation, fuel consumption and any maintenance issues encountered
• Communicating effectively with site teams, including spotters and supervisors, to ensure coordinated and safe operations
• Following all relevant health and safety legislation, including site-specific safety procedures and company policies
• Operating equipment within specified tolerances to minimise rework and maintain project quality standards
• Contributing to a positive and collaborative site culture that prioritises safety and professional conduct

What we're looking for

• Current and valid Excavator Operator licence or equivalent heavy plant operator qualifications recognised in New South Wales
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating excavators in construction or civil earthworks environments
• Demonstrated competency in a range of excavation tasks, including trenching, site preparation and material handling
• Current White Card (Construction Induction) or ability to obtain one
• Strong understanding of health and safety procedures and commitment to working safely on all occasions
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to take direction from supervisors
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to identify and report equipment faults promptly
• Reliability and punctuality with a strong work ethic
• A valid driver's licence is essential
• Preference given to candidates with experience in civil works and earthmoving operations in the Newcastle region
