Job summary

Karbon is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Engagements to Payments team in Sydney, guiding a mix of frontend and backend engineers. You will shape system design, drive delivery speed, and ensure data integrity across distributed services, with a clear path toward Continuous Delivery.

You’ll mentor engineers, set clear goals, and collaborate with Product and Tech Leads across locations and time zones, balancing feature work with maintenance and reliability initiatives.

Qualifications

• Senior or above IC background before moving into management.
• 2+ years as an Engineering Manager.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and data integrity.
• Clear communication across locations and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Hire, onboard and grow the team, with clear expectations and regular feedback.
• Raise the bar on technical quality: clear boundaries, sound designs and high operational standards.
• Improve delivery speed and quality by reducing lead time and change failure rate, with customers front and centre.
• Own reliability with the team: SLOs, observability, system health and blameless incident reviews.
• Work with Product and Tech Leads to plan and deliver, balancing new features, improvements, bugs and maintenance.
• Give the team autonomy with clear goals and accountability, and build strong relationships with other teams.
