Job summary

Orange City Council is seeking an Engineering Design Coordinator to lead the delivery of practical engineering designs for Council infrastructure projects. You will lead the Design team, coordinate consultants, and provide trusted technical and strategic advice spanning roads, stormwater, water, sewerage, parks and more.

This permanent full-time role offers a 35-hour week, hybrid working arrangements, and a salary in the $104,770–$114,199 range plus superannuation, with opportunities to develop

Qualifications

• You must have a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Knowledge of stormwater modelling and ability to interpret legislation, standards and technical requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capability with coaching and mentoring abilities.
• Strong communication and relationship management across consultants, developers and community.
• Strategic thinking, sound judgement and practical, creative problem solving.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills with strong digital capability.

About the role

As Engineering Design Coordinator, you will guide the delivery of high-quality, practical and cost-effective engineering designs for Council infrastructure projects. You will lead the Design team, coordinate consultants, provide trusted technical and strategic advice, and work constructively with developers, colleagues and the community. From concept and investigation through to approvals and construction standards, you will help turn complex engineering challenges into solutions that serve Orange now and into the future.

What you’ll do

• Lead and support the Design team, creating a clear sense of purpose and encouraging strong performance
• Manage the delivery of engineering designs in line with Australian Standards, Council’s Development and Subdivision Code, and Transport for NSW requirements
• Coordinate design consultants to deliver practical, timely and cost-effective outcomes
• Provide strategic technical advice, engineering computations, estimates and contract specifications across roads, stormwater, water, sewerage, parks and other infrastructure
• Work with developers and assist with the assessment and approval of engineering plans
• Investigate and report on infrastructure, drainage, flooding and traffic matters
• Manage inspections, construction standards, compliance, risk and work health and safety requirements

What you’ll bring

• A degree qualification in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline
• Knowledge of stormwater modelling and the ability to interpret relevant legislation, standards and technical requirements
• Proven leadership and supervisory capability, with an ability to coach, mentor and develop others
• Strong communication and relationship-management skills across consultants, developers, colleagues and the community
• Strategic thinking, sound judgement and a practical, creative approach to solving complex problems
• Excellent planning and organisational skills, supported by strong digital capability
