Job summary

The Ted Noffs Foundation is seeking a dedicated Engagement Worker in Canberra for a part-time 25 hours per week role at The Street University Canberra. You will deliver regular creative workshops and activities to at-risk young people, focusing on arts, music, dance, spoken word and events in a supportive, non-residential setting.

Ideal candidates will have youth engagement experience in community development, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to develop tailored action plans,

Qualifications

• Experience in working with young people, preferably those with alcohol and other drug related difficulties.
• Experience in a community development setting.
• Initiative, creativity and practical life skills to organise positive group programs and other activities for young people.
• Ability to develop, maintain and build positive relationships with key stakeholders.
• Proven organisational skills and the ability to multi-task with attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines.
• Current and valid ACT Working With Vulnerable People card, and Driver's Licence with a good driving record.
• Good understanding of Logic Pro Recording Software.
• Ability to set up equipment for recording sessions and concerts.

Responsibilities

• Promote meaningful engagement for young people in the space through programs and workshops.
• Develop individualised engagement action plans for each client.
• Acquire local knowledge and develop meaningful dialogue with young people.
• Develop and maintain varied and viable program of sports, creative arts and recreational activity for young people.
• Work with young people to ensure their ideas contribute fully to the planning and delivery of sessions, projects and activities.
• Where appropriate, provide young people with targeted interventions and support guided by Therapeutic Crisis Intervention principles.
• Supervise and evaluate Volunteers to run workshops.
• Develop effective working partnerships with local and national statutory, commercial and voluntary organisations.
• Look for opportunities to form further community partnerships and programs.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare high quality reports.
• Manage the smooth day-to-day operations of the centre.
• Attend and actively participate in relevant meetings.

Originally named The Wayside Foundation, The Ted Noffs Foundation was established in 1970 by the Australian humanitarian, Reverend Ted Noffs, who's work championed social justice, mental health support, and innovative youth services. Today, the Foundation continues his legacy, delivering frontline services and community support across NSW, ACT & QLD. With over 200 staff and 350 volunteers, we remain deeply committed to helping young people affected by issues related to drugs, crime, and mental health.

The Role

Noffs is looking for a dedicated and enthusiasticEngagement Worker to deliver regular creative workshops and activities to at-risk young people. The role has a strong focus on quality engagement via creative arts, music, dance, spoken word, rap, performance and events.

This role is based in The Street University Canberra. The Street Universities are non-residential treatment centres based throughout NSW, ACT and QLD that help those aged 12-25 with drug, crime and mental health issues. Each centre is unique and is a safe environment where young people can engage in workshops ranging from music and dance to computer coding. Evidence-based counselling is available to help our youth reduce their drug use and involvement in crime and to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
