Job summary

North West Community Services in Riverstone, NSW is seeking a Youth Engagement Worker to lead the NW YaC program, a place-based, youth-led community engagement initiative.

Working from a community development framework, you will engage young people where they connect—schools, parks, and local events—co-designing solutions and building pathways to volunteering and leadership while strengthening community ties.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Community Services, Youth Work or related field, or demonstrated relevant experience.
• Commitment to social justice, cultural diversity, accountability and integrity.
• Experience engaging and building positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience developing and facilitating youth or community-based groups, training or capacity-building.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, time management and computer skills.
• Risk and compliance with WHS, Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act and National Standards for Disability.
• High level attention to detail.
• Drivers Licence and fully insured motor vehicle.
• National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
• First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, suitably qualified, and experienced professional to join our Community Connections Team in a Youth Engagement role. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, fostering meaningful engagement, developing innovative programs, and creating opportunities that empower young people to connect, participate, and thrive within their community.

The Position

The Youth Engagement Worker will lead the delivery of North West Youth and Community Initiative, (NW YaC) an innovative place-based, youth-led community engagement program designed to strengthen youth participation, leadership, volunteering, social connection, and access to community support services.

Working from a community development and social wellbeing framework, the role will engage young people in the places and spaces they already connect with, including schools, parks, community facilities, NWCS programs, and local community events. The position is centred on ensuring young people have a genuine voice in shaping their communities by identifying local priorities and co-designing solutions that respond to their needs and aspirations.

The Youth Engagement Worker will develop and implement a Youth-Led Engagement Strategy, establish pathways for youth volunteering and emerging leadership, and deliver training and capacity-building opportunities that empower young people to actively participate in community life. The role will support young people to design and participate in a range of community-based initiatives that foster belonging, inclusion, and positive social outcomes.

A key feature of the position is leveraging NWCS's existing community infrastructure, including the Café Belong Barista Van, to create practical volunteering, outreach, and community engagement opportunities. Through participation in community pop-ups, NWCS activities, and partner events, young people will gain valuable real-world experience while developing transferable skills, confidence, and community connections.

The position will also provide accessible information, service navigation, and supported referral pathways, connecting young people and community members with appropriate internal and external services. This includes support across areas such as education, employment, health and wellbeing, family support, recreation, and other community resources, helping individuals access the assistance they need to thrive.

The successful candidate will have the following essential requirements:

• · Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Science, Social Work, Community Development or a related human services field, or demonstrated relevant experience
• · Demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural diversity, accountability and integrity
• · Demonstrated experience engaging and building positive relationships with young people, including young people from diverse backgrounds or experiencing barriers to participation
• · Experience developing and facilitating youth or community-based groups, training, workshops or capacity-building activities
