Job summary

Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Sydney is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Intern (Junior/Trainee) to spend 75% of the year in Emergency & Critical Care and 25% in specialty rotations. You will be mentored by a dedicated nurse and follow a structured learning plan with competency sign-offs.

You should have a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) and at least 1 year of general practice experience, plus a genuine interest in Emergency & Critical Care and referral nursing.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) and at least 1 year of experience in general practice.
• Genuine interest in Emergency & Critical Care and referral nursing.
• Curious and motivated, and comfortable asking questions and taking feedback.
• Organised, adaptable and a good communicator in a busy team environment.

Responsibilities

• Spend ~75% of the year in Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) building confidence with emergency presentations and hospitalised patients.
• Remaining 25% rotating through specialty departments (e.g., Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology).
• Dedicated nurse mentor for the duration of the internship with a structured learning plan and competency sign-offs.
• Weekly/fortnightly specialist-led education and case discussions.
• Formal check-ins at 3, 6 and 9 months to review progress and goals.
• On successful completion, the opportunity to transition into a permanent role.
