Job summary

SpaceX in Redmond is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for Laser Mesh Routing (Starlink). You will work on the lowest layers of the software stack for the Starlink platform, interfacing directly with the hardware and network fabric.

Responsibilities include building and maintaining a lean Linux-based OS, writing high-performance device drivers, deploying and debugging in production, and collaborating with hardware teams to bring up new hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or 2+ years in software development.
• Hands-on system programming in C or C++.
• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel networking or another production kernel.
• Debugging tools for kernel, network, and userspace (ftrace, perf, gdb, Wireshark).
• Hardware bring-up: bootstrapping Linux/kernel on new devices.
• Experience with high-speed device drivers, DMA, and cache coherency.
• Understanding Ethernet, PCIe, I2C, SPI interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Linux-based OS for our supercomputer network fabric.
• Write (or rewrite) high-performance device drivers to extract hardware capability.
• Deploy, operate, and debug the platform in production.
• Investigate anomalies and drive reliability improvements.
• Develop tools for observability and configuration management.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to bring up OS on new hardware.
