Job description

Electrical Estimator- Build the Tender. Win the Work.

AVE Technologies is a Newcastle-based engineering and technology company delivering electrical, automation, communications and technology solutions across industrial, heavy industry, energy and critical infrastructure projects.

We’re growing and looking for an Electrical Estimator who knows their way around a tender, can spot the details others might miss and understands what it takes to price a project properly.

This is a role for someone who enjoys working through the technical detail, building accurate estimates and helping turn opportunities into projects the team can deliver successfully.

Your new role

Based in Newcastle, you’ll work closely with AVE’s engineering, electrical, project management and commercial teams to assess opportunities and prepare competitive tenders.

You’ll review project plans and specifications, work through electrical scopes, complete detailed take-offs and coordinate supplier pricing to develop estimates that are accurate, commercially sound and submitted on time.

You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in site inspections, tender clarifications and project handovers, giving you a real understanding of the work behind the numbers.

We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of the estimating process, ask the right questions and help AVE make informed decisions about the projects we pursue.

What you’ll actually do
  • Review tender documents, electrical drawings, specifications and project scopes to understand what is required

  • Complete detailed material and labour take-offs to build accurate estimates

  • Identify gaps, risks, exclusions and opportunities within tender documentation

  • Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations, checking pricing, inclusions, exclusions and lead times

  • Build comprehensive electrical tender submissions, including scope, inclusions, exclusions and commercial details

  • Prepare and manage electrical estimates and quotations using Simpro

  • Attend site inspections where required to understand existing infrastructure, access, site conditions and project constraints

  • Allow for labour productivity, supervision, plant, equipment, testing, commissioning and project preliminaries

  • Work with the engineering and project teams to ensure estimates reflect how the work will actually be delivered

  • Meet tender deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

  • Support project handovers and the development of accurate as-installed documentation

About you

You’ll be someone who enjoys the challenge of putting a tender together properly. You understand that a good estimate is more than a spreadsheet of numbers. It needs to reflect the scope, the site conditions, the people required and the practicalities of delivering the work.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in electrical estimating, tendering or a similar role within the electrical, construction, engineering or industrial sectors

  • A trade qualification in electrical or a related building or engineering discipline, or relevant industry experience

  • The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications and technical documentation

  • Experience completing detailed material and labour take-offs

  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs, margins and profitability

  • Experience obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations

  • Familiarity with estimating or project software such as Simpro, Groundplan or similar

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging clients, suppliers and internal teams

  • A practical, detail-focused approach and the confidence to ask questions when something doesn’t add up

Experience across industrial, heavy industry, mining or infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.
