Job summary

WesTrac is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to produce electrical designs that are safe, practical, legally compliant, and meet customer requirements. You will develop CAD designs and supporting documentation for reviews, including calculations, risk assessments, and compliance records in collaboration with the engineering team.

You will contribute to machine modifications and new build projects while ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory obligations are met.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in a design drafting role within mining or heavy machinery.
  • Relevant electrical engineering qualifications with drafting experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and develop fit-for-purpose design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, harness designs, and CAD drawings for modifications and new builds.
  • Interpret customer requirements to deliver practical, safe, compliant designs.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including calculations, risk assessments and compliance records.
  • Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure standards are met.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and as-built drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create as-built schematics after machine build completion.

Job description

Reporting to the Senior Technical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for creating electrical designs that are safe, practical, legally compliant, and meet customer requirements. Working closely with the broader Engineering team, you'll develop CAD designs and all relevant supporting documentation, including calculations, risk assessments, and compliance documentation, for review and approval.

This role provides the opportunity to play a key part in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant electrical design solutions that support machine modifications, new build projects, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, harness designs, and CAD drawings to support machine modifications and new build projects
  • Interpret technical specifications and customer requirements to deliver practical, safe, and compliant engineering solutions
  • Prepare accurate engineering documentation, including calculations, risk assessments, compliance records, and design reports
  • Conduct and support design reviews, quality checks, and verification activities to ensure engineering standards are met
  • Maintain engineering documentation, as-built drawings, and configuration control records throughout the project lifecycle
  • Create as-built schematics for customer-specific projects following machine build completion
Skills and Experience
  • Significant experiencein a design drafting role within mining, heavy machinery, mobileequipmentor a similar industrial environment
  • Qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Certificate IV in Engineering, with equivalent industry experience in Electrical Engineering Drafting
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and develop practical, fit-for-purpose design solutions
  • Strong attention to detail, time managementskillsand a commitment to working safely and collaboratively
  • Experience with Caterpillar, SIS and Autocad Electrical desirable
