Job summary

MechDesign Consulting Engineers in Melbourne is seeking an Electrical & Controls Engineer to design, document and deliver electrical power, control and automation systems for HVAC and building-services projects.

You will prepare SLDs, drawings and specs, coordinate with mechanical equipment, review interfaces, and support installation, commissioning and handover with a hands-on engineering approach and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in an electrical and control engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of electrical control system circuit design.
• Hands-on technical or field experience is essential.
• Experience using 2D and 3D CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering drawings and layouts using CAD software.
• Develop, maintain and revise technical documentation for electrical, control and automation systems.
• Manage electrical engineering activities and project delivery for electrical distribution, controls, automation and BMS systems.
• Design and review LV/MV electrical distribution systems, including switchboards, MCCs, transformers, motors, pumps, VSDs, cabling, protection and earthing systems.
• Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, cable schedules, load calculations, equipment schedules, and technical specifications and associated engineering documentation.
• Design and coordinate PLC, HMI, SCADA, BMS and instrumentation systems, including control panels, control schematics, points lists and I/O schedules.
• Develop and review electrical control philosophies, sequences of operation and functional descriptions for HVAC and building-services control systems.
• Coordinate electrical and control requirements for HVAC equipment, including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, ventilation fans, exhaust systems and VAV systems.
• Coordinate interfaces between mechanical equipment, electrical systems, BMS, PLCs, sensors, actuators, VSDs and other control devices.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders to resolve technical, coordination and project delivery issues.

The Electrical & Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, coordination and delivery of electrical power, control and automation systems associated with HVAC and building-services projects.
