Job summary

WSP Australia seeks an experienced Associate/Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of 330kV–500kV substations within its Power & Energy team. You will provide technical leadership across major transmission projects and mentor engineers through concept to construction.

The role requires deep HV/EHV design expertise, strong client engagement, and a passion for delivering critical energy infrastructure that supports Australia’s net-zero future.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Power Systems, or equivalent Engineering discipline.
• Significant HV/EHV substation design experience.
• Experience delivering 330kV–500kV projects.
• Skills in earth design, EMF/LFI studies, insulation coordination, arc flash.
• Strong knowledge of conductor and busbar sizing, short-circuit, lightning protection.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of EHV/HV substation primary design packages.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers across the business.
• Undertake and review power system studies and design calculations.
• Develop substation layouts, equipment specifications, and design documentation.
• Support project delivery teams through design reviews and construction phases.
• Engage with clients, utilities, contractors, and key project stakeholders.
• Contribute to proposals and capability development.
