Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate or Senior Electrical Engineer (EHV) in Australia to lead the design and delivery of HV/EHV substations and transmission solutions. You will mentor engineers and contribute to technical excellence across major projects across the country.

Projects span 330kV to 500kV, with hands-on engineering work, calculations, and collaboration with clients and utilities to ensure successful outcomes. Melbourne and Adelaide locations available.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Significant experience delivering HV/EHV substation projects in the power/utilities/energy sector.
• Experience on transmission infrastructure projects in the 330kV–500kV range.
• Hands-on experience with technical studies and engineering calculations, not just reviews.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of EHV/HV substation primary design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers across the Power & Energy business.
• Undertake and review technical studies, design calculations, and engineering assessments.

As our Power & Energy team continues to grow, we're seeking an experienced Associate or Senior Electrical Engineer (EHV) to provide technical leadership across major transmission and substation projects throughout Australia.

Working on projects ranging from 330kV to 500kV, you'll play a key role in delivering complex substation and transmission solutions while mentoring engineers and contributing to the technical excellence of our national team.

What You'll Do

In this client-facing technical leadership role, you will:

• Lead the delivery of EHV/HV substation primary design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
• Provide technical direction, guidance, and mentorship to engineers across the Power & Energy business.
• Undertake and review technical studies, design calculations, and engineering assessments.
• Develop substation layouts, equipment arrangements, specifications, and design documentation.
• Support project teams during design reviews, construction, commissioning, and project delivery phases.
• Collaborate with clients, utilities, contractors, and key stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Contribute to proposals, business development activities, and technical capability initiatives across the business.
• Support the development of innovative and technically robust solutions for major transmission infrastructure projects.

About You

You are a highly capable electrical engineer with extensive experience in transmission and substation design, backed by strong technical expertise and a passion for sharing knowledge with others.

You'll bring:

• A degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Significant experience delivering HV/EHV substation projects within the power, utilities, or energy sector.
• Demonstrated expertise working on transmission infrastructure projects in the 330kV to 500kV range.
• Hands-on experience undertaking technical studies and engineering calculations, rather than solely reviewing third-party designs.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Conductor and busbar sizing
  • Short-circuit force calculations
  • Lightning protection design
  • Lighting design studies
  • Substation equipment layouts
  • High-voltage equipment specifications
  • HV cable sizing and associated calculations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A collaborative approach and desire to mentor and develop emerging engineers.
