Job summary

CatholicCare Tasmania Early Learning & Care in Devonport is hiring a Part-Time Educator. You will support planning, supervise daily activities, and maintain detailed child records while ensuring safety and a high standard of care.

Commitment to the Archdiocese values and screening requirements apply. Applicants should hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services and a valid First Aid certificate, with current child safety screening.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Children’s Services required.
  • Current First Aid certificate (HLFTA301B/C or HLTFA311A) required.
  • Working with Vulnerable People/Police Check clearance preferred or required.
  • Knowledge of National Quality Framework and Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning long and short term needs of each child.
  • Maintain accurate records and observations of children.
  • Administer first aid or medications and keep medication records.
  • Monitor children’s health and ensure safety within the centre.
  • Maintain high standards of care and monitor attendance within the centre.
  • Abide by Catholic Church operations and Archdiocese values.

Part-Time position available in Devonport

CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church across Tasmania. We have 60 years’ experience delivering a wide range of services and support to improve individual, family and community wellbeing. Our services are available and open to all with a particular focus on families, young people and children.

CatholicCare Tasmania Early Learning & Care aims to provide care and Education of the highest quality. Children’s programs are planned to be developmentally appropriate and stimulating. Cultural and social inclusiveness together with family involvement in all aspects of the centre’s activities is vital to the functioning of this service.

How you will make an impact

Educators provide an important element in the overall delivery of quality care services by contributing their skills and experience and being pivotal in the care provided. As an educator it is important for carers to understand the needs of children and their families, being able to develop and sustain positive partnerships and be an advocate for the importance of quality assurance.

What will be your duties
  • To assist in the plan for the long and short term needs of each child.
  • To treat each child with dignity and respect, taking into consideration any cultural, socio economic or other differences which may exist.
  • To keep and update the children’s records, including the making of regular observations.
  • To take responsibility for the administration of first aid or medications, and to facilitate good record keeping in respect of medication administration and storage.
  • To monitor the physical health of the children at the child care service.
  • To ensure that a consistently high standard of child care is maintained in the centre.
  • Ensure that all children booked to attend the service have arrived and that their location within the centre is accounted for at all times.
  • Resolve conflicts with and between children reasonably, positively and cooperatively.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the operations of the Catholic Church and a commitment to the philosophy and core values of the Archdiocese of Hobart.
  • Current Child Safety Screening Clearance from the Department of Education, Child Care Unit or a valid Working with Children Registration from the Department of Justice.
  • Able to meet staffing ratio requirements for child care industry, current age requirement minimum 18 years of age.
  • Certificate III in Children’s Services or alternatively, this employee will possess, in the opinion of the employer, sufficient knowledge or experience to perform the duties at this level.
  • Current HLFTA301B, HLFTA301C or HLTFA311A ‘Apply First Aid’ Certificate.
  • Prior experience working with children or within a children’s service.
  • Sound knowledge of the National Quality Framework, 2011, Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, 2011 and the Licensing Standards for Centre Based Care, Class 5.
