Job summary

Cartage Australia Pty Ltd in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Fleet Scheduler / Allocator for our Day Shift Operations Team. You will plan, allocate and adjust truck movements to meet customer requirements and maximise fleet utilisation, while delivering excellent service.

Responsibilities include scheduling, dispatching, real-time adjustments, and using triangulation to minimise empty kilometres. The role requires strong Excel skills, TMS experience and effective communication with drivers

Qualifications

• Proven experience in transport operations, fleet allocation, scheduling or logistics coordination.
• Ability to plan successive truck movements and adapt allocations during the day.
• Strong geographical awareness including travel times and vehicle configurations.
• Excellent organisational skills to manage competing priorities.
• Strong communication with drivers, customers and operations teams.
• Sound judgement and practical problem solving in fast-paced environments.
• Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
• Experience with transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of Chain of Responsibility and fatigue management.
• Attention to detail with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, allocate and dispatch trucks to meet customer delivery requirements and deadlines.
• Use triangulation and load sequencing to maximise loaded kilometres and minimise empty running.
• Monitor fleet movements and make real-time adjustments to maximise service performance.
• Maintain clear communication with drivers, providing timely instructions and support throughout the shift.
• Build strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Resolve daily operational issues, including delays, disrupted schedules and competing delivery priorities.
• Maximise fleet utilisation and productivity while maintaining safety and service standards.
• Apply Chain of Responsibility, fatigue management and workplace safety requirements to scheduling and allocation decisions.
• Maintain accurate allocation records, transport documentation and operational reports.
• Use Excel and operational data to monitor performance, identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Work closely with the Operations Team to ensure clear handovers and continuity between shifts.
• Contribute to operational KPIs and customer service targets.
