Job summary

Accor is seeking a skilled Duty Technician to join the engineering team at Novotel & ibis Sydney on Darling Harbour, a flagship Sydney property. You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities to ensure safety and guest satisfaction.

This full-time, hybrid role requires basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical maintenance, along with recording work orders and collaborating with the Engineering team to uphold Accor’s

Qualifications

• Proactive problem-solving attitude.
• Solid knowledge of general building maintenance incl. plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and HVAC.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
• Strong organisational skills; ability to prioritise multiple tasks.

• Commitment to WHS requirements.
• Flexibility to work a 7-day rotating roster with on-call duties (penalty rates).

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests to minimise disruption.
• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance across guest rooms and facilities.
• Perform general building maintenance, repairs and fault finding.
• Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, hydraulics, HVAC and mechanical tasks.
• Maintain presentation of façades, public spaces, and high-traffic areas.
• Undertake painting, patching, and repairs to surfaces and furnishings.
• Prepare and apply finishes using appropriate tools.
• Repair and install wall coverings, caulking and finishing works.
• Conduct routine inspections and report defects promptly.
• Follow WHS requirements and hotel maintenance standards.
• Maintain maintenance records and complete work orders in the hotel system.
• Collaborate with Engineering and other departments to ensure smooth operations.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a skilled and motivated Duty Technician to join our experienced Engineering Team, playing a key role in maintaining the presentation, safety, and operational excellence of both properties.

Job Description

• Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests to minimise disruption and enhance the guest experience.
• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, and hotel equipment.
• Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and fault finding to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hotels.
• Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning, and mechanical maintenance in accordance with qualifications and competency.
• Maintain the presentation and functionality of external façades, public spaces, and high-traffic areas to the highest standard.
• Undertake painting, patching, and repairs to internal and external surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
• Prepare, mix, and apply paints, stains, varnishes, lacquers, and other finishes using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Repair and install wall coverings, carry out caulking and grouting, and complete finishing works to a high standard.
• Conduct routine inspections, identify maintenance issues, and report or rectify defects in a timely manner.
• Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, safe work procedures, and hotel maintenance standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders using the hotel's maintenance management system.
• Collaborate effectively with the Engineering team and other hotel departments to ensure efficient operations and exceptional guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

• A positive can‑do attitude with a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
• Sound knowledge of general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and air conditioning systems.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing positively to a team environment.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on customer service.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and complying with Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
• Flexibility to work across a 7-day rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays, and on‑call duties where required (penalty rates apply).
