Job summary

Obieco Industries, a Tamworth-based manufacturer, seeks an experienced Draftsperson to turn CAD designs into shop-floor drawings for truck bodies, fleet canopies and custom vehicle solutions.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years in sheet metal and structural steel drafting, and proficiency in SolidWorks/AutoCAD. The role focuses on practical, buildable drawings and collaboration with Engineering and Production teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of drafting experience in sheet metal and structural steel fabrication.
• Experience drafting hollow sections in metal fabrication.
• Proficient with CAD software and reading technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for sheet metal and fabricated components.
• Produce detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings for truck bodies and canopies.
• Draft sheet metal components and structural hollow sections.
• Prepare drawings for production, including CNC and other equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production and Workshop teams to ensure manufacturability.
• Review drawings for accuracy before release to production.
• Assist with resolving design and manufacturing issues.
• Maintain drawing revisions and design documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in product design and processes.

Draftsperson – Sheet Metal & Fabrication

Tamworth NSW | Full Time | $85,000-$95,000 + Super, based on experience

Are you an experienced Draftsperson who enjoys seeing your designs go from CAD to the workshop floor?

Obieco Industries is seeking an experienced Draftsperson to join our Engineering team in Tamworth.

Working closely with our Engineering, Production and Workshop teams, you'll create accurate, practical manufacturing drawings for our range of truck bodies, fleet canopies and custom vehicle solutions.

We're looking for someone with strong experience drafting sheet metal and structural steel hollow sections, who understands how a good design translates into an efficient, high-quality finished product.

What You'll Be Doing

• Creating accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for sheet metal and fabricated components
• Producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings for truck bodies, canopies and custom vehicle solutions
• Drafting sheet metal components and structural steel hollow sections
• Preparing drawings and files for production, including CNC and other manufacturing equipment
• Working closely with Engineering, Production and Workshop teams to ensure designs are practical and ready for manufacture
• Reviewing drawings, dimensions and specifications for accuracy before release to production
• Assisting with the resolution of design and manufacturing issues
• Maintaining accurate drawing revisions and design documentation
• Contributing to continuous improvements in product design and manufacturing processes

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 3 years' drafting experience within sheet metal and structural steel fabrication
• Demonstrated experience drafting sheet metal and structural steel hollow sections
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar CAD software
• Strong understanding of metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
• Ability to produce clear, accurate and practical manufacturing drawings
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
• Confidence communicating and collaborating with engineers, fabricators and production staff
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within production timeframes

Hands-on fabrication or manufacturing experience would be highly regarded.

We're particularly interested in someone who understands not only how to draw a component, but also how that design will translate to the workshop floor.
