Make a meaningful difference for women, children and families

Are you a compassionate, experienced and values-driven practitioner committed to supporting women and children experiencing domestic and family violence?

Safe Harbour by the Sea is seeking a dedicated Domestic and Family Violence Caseworker to join our specialist team, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed and person-centred support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, homelessness or housing insecurity.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a community-led service where safety, dignity, healing and self-determination are central to everything we do.

About Safe Harbour by the Sea

Safe Harbour by the Sea is delivered by SEARMS Community Housing Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation supporting Aboriginal communities across the NSW South Coast since 2003.

Operating within the NSW Government's Core and Cluster Program, Safe Harbour provides safe, self-contained crisis accommodation alongside specialist domestic and family violence support and coordinated case management.

Our approach recognises that safety extends beyond accommodation. We work alongside women and children to support their immediate safety, wellbeing, cultural connections and longer-term pathways towards stable, sustainable housing.

We are committed to culturally safe, inclusive and trauma-informed practice, with particular recognition of the experiences, strengths and self-determination of Aboriginal women, children and families.

About the role

Reporting to the Program Manager, the DFV Caseworker provides specialist, strengths-based case management and practical support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

Working collaboratively with clients, colleagues and specialist services, you will support victim-survivors to make informed decisions, strengthen their safety and access the services and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed and victim-survivor-led case management, including crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  • Undertake comprehensive DFV risk assessments, safety planning and client-led case planning, including use of recognised assessment tools such as DVSAT.
  • Recognise and respond to children as victim-survivors and clients in their own right, prioritising their safety, wellbeing and developmental needs.
  • Support women and children to access safe accommodation, sustainable housing, legal assistance, financial support, healthcare, counselling and other specialist services.
  • Work respectfully with Aboriginal women and families, recognising cultural identity, community connections, healing and self-determination.
  • Collaborate with NSW Police, specialist DFV services, homelessness services, child protection, housing providers and community organisations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case records, undertake appropriate reporting and comply with safeguarding and lawful information-sharing requirements.
  • Participate in outreach, coordinated crisis responses and an after-hours on-call roster in accordance with organisational safety procedures.
About you
  • We are looking for someone who brings empathy, professional integrity, cultural awareness and sound judgement to complex and sometimes challenging situations.
  • A qualification in social work, community services or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed case management in domestic and family violence, homelessness or community services.
  • Sound understanding of domestic and family violence, coercive control, gender-based violence and the importance of victim-survivor safety and choice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe practice, Aboriginal self-determination, inclusion and respectful engagement with diverse communities.
  • Ability to undertake risk assessments, develop safety plans, respond to crisis situations and coordinate referrals.
  • Understanding of child safety, safeguarding responsibilities, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, advocacy, relationship-building and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary service environment.
  • Confidence using digital case management and reporting systems.
  • Current NSW Driver Licence.
  • Ability to meet applicable Working With Children Check, National Police Check and First Aid requirements before undertaking relevant duties.
Highly regarded:
  • Experience in specialist DFV crisis accommodation or NSW Specialist Homelessness Services.
  • Familiarity with NSW Safer Pathway, DVSAT, the Core and Cluster model and relevant SHS reporting systems.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal women, children and families in a culturally responsive service.
  • Knowledge of local services and referral pathways across Eurobodalla and the NSW Far South Coast.
What we offer

At Safe Harbour, we recognise that supporting others requires a supportive and safe working environment.

  • Meaningful work within an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
  • A collaborative and values-driven team.
  • Salary packaging opportunities.
  • Regular professional supervision, including access to external supervision.
  • Professional development and specialist practice learning opportunities.
  • Employee Assistance Program and wellbeing support.
  • An opportunity to contribute to a growing, culturally responsive specialist service.
Our commitment
