Job summary

Westpac is hiring a Distinguished Engineer in Sydney to shape the bank's technology direction and tackle the most complex digital engineering challenges across web, mobile, APIs, cloud and AI.

You’ll influence strategy, architecture and engineering standards while mentoring technical talent and aligning senior leaders across communities, without direct people management. This permanent role is based in Sydney, Warrane, Gadigal Country or the Gold Coast, Australia.

Qualifications

• The ability to set long term technology direction and connect business strategy with enterprise architecture.
• Deep expertise in solving complex engineering challenges across digital platforms, including web, mobile, APIs, cloud and AI.
• The ability to influence major decisions and build alignment across senior leaders and technical communities without relying on formal authority.
• A strong command of modern engineering practices, including reliability, resilience, security, performance, accessibility and technology risk.
• The ability to champion innovation, mentor engineers and lift technical capability across a large and complex organisation.

What’s the role?

This is one of the most senior individual contributor roles in technology, sitting within Digital. You’ll shape Westpac’s technology direction, solve our most complex digital engineering challenges and turn bold ideas into secure, scalable and accessible customer experiences.

You’ll influence strategy, architecture, engineering standards and major technology decisions across web, mobile, APIs, cloud and AI. You’ll remain deeply connected to engineering, while mentoring technical talent and building alignment across senior leaders and technology communities, without taking on direct people management.

This is a permanent role based in Sydney, Warrane, Gadigal Country or the Gold Coast, Australia. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates internationally as well as from across Australia.
