Job summary

Westpac is seeking a Chief Engineer – Westpac Intelligence to lead the technical vision, engineering strategy and evolution of the Intelligence Platform. This executive role provides end-to-end technical leadership and ownership of the platform, shaping architecture, standards and engineering direction for data products, analytics, ML and decisioning capabilities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organisations and enterprise technology transformations.
• Deep technical expertise across modern data and cloud ecosystems including Microsoft Azure, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Teradata and Snowflake.
• Strong knowledge of Machine Learning platforms and MLOps frameworks such as Azure ML, H2O, MLflow and Enterprise Decisioning Platforms.
• Extensive experience delivering Data Products and modern data platform capabilities.
• Demonstrated success driving platform performance, operational excellence and cost optimisation.

• Lead engineering roadmaps supporting Data Products, Advanced Analytics, MLOps and Decisioning capabilities.
• Establish platform standards, engineering frameworks and architectural guardrails that enable scalable and secure delivery.
• Embed DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices across the Intelligence Platform.
• Coach and mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, helping build enterprise engineering capability.

• Define and drive the strategic technical direction of the Westpac Intelligence Platform.
• Lead engineering roadmaps supporting Data Products, Advanced Analytics, MLOps and Decisioning capabilities.
• Establish platform standards, engineering frameworks and architectural guardrails that enable scalable and secure delivery.

Data, AI & Innovation Leadership

• Drive adoption of modern engineering approaches across AI, Machine Learning, Agentic Engineering and intelligent automation.
• Shape the roadmap for emerging technologies that enable faster data delivery and improved developer experiences.
• Champion innovation while ensuring platforms remain reliable, secure and operationally resilient.

Engineering Excellence

• Define engineering standards, tooling and best practices that streamline the development of data assets and pipelines.
• Embed DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices across the Intelligence Platform.
• Ensure security, governance and compliance requirements are integrated as core platform capabilities.

Technical Leadership & Influence

• Act as the senior technical authority for the Intelligence Platform, providing leadership across complex transformation initiatives.
• Coach and mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, helping build enterprise engineering capability.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning and engineering excellence.
