Job description

Disability Support Worker - Carrum Downs

Are you an experienced Support Worker who knows that great support is about more than simply completing a shift?

We're looking for patient, confident and genuinely caring Support Workers to join our team and provide consistent, person-centred support to someone with complex mental health presentations and behaviours of concern.

This is a role where connection, trust and consistency really matter. You'll have the opportunity to build a genuine relationship with the person you support, learn what matters to them, understand their triggers and interests, and help create an environment where they feel safe, respected and supported.

You'll need to be comfortable navigating challenging situations while remaining calm, compassionate and professional. The ability to listen, communicate effectively and respond thoughtfully can make a real difference in this role.

E3.1 (Casual In-Home and SIL)
SCHADS Award E3.1 Casual Rates (before tax):

  • Base hourly rate: $36.81
  • Afternoon shift (shift ends between 8pm and midnight, Monday to Friday): $40.49
  • Active Night shift (finishes after midnight or starts before 6am, Monday to Friday): $41.23
  • Saturday: $51.54
  • Sunday: $66.26
  • Public Holiday: $80.99

Build a Genuine Connection We're looking for someone who can see beyond the support needs and take the time to get to know the person.

Building rapport may come naturally if you share interests such as:

  • Xbox and gaming
  • Electronics, technology and tinkering with devices
  • Netflix, particularly action movies and comedies
  • Music of all kinds
  • Meaningful conversations about feelings, interests, experiences and everyday life

Whether it's chatting about a favourite movie, helping with a technology project, playing Xbox or simply being there for a conversation, the little moments of connection can have a big impact.

We're particularly interested in Support Workers with experience in:

  • Positive Behaviour Support
  • Emotional regulation and recognising triggers
  • De-escalation and behaviours of concern
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Supporting people with complex mental health presentations
  • Maintaining professional boundaries
  • Providing consistent, person-centred support
  • Clear and accurate documentation and communication

Most importantly, you'll be patient, resilient, respectful and a great listener. You'll understand that building trust takes time and that consistency is key to creating a positive and supportive relationship.

Certificates & Licences Required

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or equivalent
  • Australian Driver’s Licence and fully insured vehicle
