Job summary

Qualifications

• A degree in mining-related discipline or equivalent.
• Minimum of fifteen years' experience in Open Pit gold mining.
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Experience using mining packages essential.
• Familiarity with Vulcan, Surpac, Whittle, Alastri, MineMax highly desirable.
• Exposure to first principles cost modelling and financial analysis.

Reporting to the VP Technical Services, the Director Open Pit Mining, develops robust life-of-mine plans for each of the Australian Region's Open Pit assets. Identify and communicate key constraints to delivery of the mine plan and evaluate sustainable options for improvement

Key responsibilities include leading the development and optimisation of Life-of-Mine (LOM) Open Pit asset strategies, driving value creation and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment of physical and cost profiles, delivering business planning and study outcomes, developing effective planning systems and processes, building organisational capability, and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Accountabilities

• Lead development of life-of mine (LOM)Open Pit asset options to optimise the value of the Australia Region within the AngloGold portfolio, providing recommendations on the preferred options.
• Ensure alignment between physicals and cost profiles, and that scenarios are assessed on the most appropriate value metrics.
• Drive value creation across Open Pit Strategic Planning by implementing continuous improvement.
• Manage delivery of results in relation to the business planning cycle and study timelines.
• Develop systems and processes to support the Open Pit Planning Department work.
• Build organisational capability (people & organisational structure, personnel, and contractors or consultants) within the Australia Business Unit.
• Provide expert and specialist Open Pit mining support services to the operations
• Lead the reporting of Open Pit Ore Reserves for the Australia Business Unit by providing support to the Competent Persons and acting as the Business Unit Reviewer, which includes providing technical sign-off.

About You

• A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline or other.
• A minimum of fifteen years' experience in the industry with demonstrated experience working on Open Pit gold mining projects.
• Strong analytical skills, combined with high attention to detail and the ability to proactively identify impacts, issues and opportunities.
• Experience using mining packages essential.
• Familiarity with Vulcan, Surpac, Whittle, Alastri, MineMax highly desirable.
• Exposure to first principles cost modelling
• Strong background in financial analysis
• A capacity in financial decision making and Risk Management
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.
• The ability to obtain National Police Clearance.
• Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
• Based in Perth and able to travel to the mine sites on a regular basis.
