Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Sydney is seeking a payroll compliance professional to help ensure adherence to laws, regulations and internal policies. The role supports governance, reporting, budgeting and forecasting, while coordinating cross‑regional payroll activities across APAC.

You will work with Australian stakeholders and external payroll providers to streamline processes and drive standardisation across the region.

Qualifications

• Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and branch policies.
• Responsible for payroll governance, controls and regulatory requirements.
• Enhance payroll general ledger reporting, reconciliations and forecasting.
• Coordinate information gathering across APAC HR and Payroll teams.
• Liaise with Australian stakeholders and payroll providers.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a professional profile within SMBC and externally.
• Support the team to achieve department goals.
• Understand, interpret and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
• Apply knowledge of payroll governance and regulatory requirements.
• Enhance and streamline payroll General Ledger reporting and reconciliations.
• Optimize personnel expense forecasting and workforce planning.
• Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Coordinate information gathering across APAC HR and Payroll teams.
• Support regional alignment and standardisation initiatives.
• Liaise with Australia, APAC stakeholders and third-party payroll providers.
