Why your role matters

This position leads and evolves UNSW's enterprise data architecture to support University strategy and daily information needs. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, the role directs the Enterprise Data Architecture capability while establishing governance and driving adoption across all university domains and data custodians. Working closely with leaders across the Enterprise Data Office, UNSW IT, and business units, the position ensures alignment with the Enterprise Data Strategy and incorporates data architecture practices into relevant technology and transformation initiatives.

Additionally, the role leverages recognized industry frameworks, monitors emerging sector developments and products, and maintains strong relationships with leading industry suppliers and partners.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:

  • Develop and maintain UNSW's enterprise data architecture to align with strategic priorities, operational needs, and long-term goals.
  • Lead the Enterprise Data Architecture function and roadmap, establishing robust architecture governance, review processes, and fit-for-purpose artifacts.
  • Drive university-wide adoption of enterprise data architecture through targeted initiatives, policies, standards, and domain frameworks.
  • Embed data architecture practices across UNSW IT and university domains, ensuring alignment between strategic planning, solution designs, and project delivery.
  • Oversee data architecture planning and investment advice to deliver sustainable, high-value data capabilities and balance operational risks.
  • Promote higher education data innovation by leveraging industry developments, sector trends, and strategic vendor relationships.
  • Champion data management, governance, privacy, and security practices across the Enterprise Data Office, UNSW IT, and the broader university community.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, outcome-driven team while contributing strategically to the broader Enterprise Data Office leadership team.
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience, backed by extensive leadership expertise in complex environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in enterprise-level data environments, with comprehensive experience across business, application, technology, and integration architecture layers.
  • Proven track record of building respected information architecture capabilities and driving data and technology transformations that deliver strategic business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, operational management, analytical problem-solving, and managing budgets within fast-evolving technology landscapes.
  • Exceptional leadership and talent management skills, with a history of developing, retaining, and guiding high-performing, outcome-focused teams.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities, with a strong ability to build trust and influence senior leaders, partners, and vendors.
  • Innovation-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, customer service excellence, ethical standards, and alignment with UNSW values and objectives.
