Job summary

UNSW in Sydney invites applications for a Project Manager within the Business Optimisation Strategy (BOS) Program. You will lead workstreams across planning, development and implementation, partnering with cross-functional teams to align roadmaps with strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in IT/Computer Science with substantial professional experience.
  • 5+ years driving complex technology initiatives through the full lifecycle in large enterprises.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with ability to translate technical concepts.
  • Excellent stakeholder alignment and collaboration across organisational levels.
  • Solid commercial and financial acumen including budget oversight and forecasting.
  • Self-directed, time management and commitment to governance and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end execution of BOS workstreams with SMEs and cross-functional teams.
  • Define scope, milestones, and deliverables; manage schedules, resources and budgets.
  • Oversee external partners, vendors, and contractors; monitor SLAs and costs.
  • Identify and mitigate delivery risks; track dependencies and artefacts.
  • Lead workshops to align priorities and drive process improvements.
  • Provide strategic advice and reports to senior executives while ensuring governance.

  • Employment Type: Full Time, 35 hours per week, Fixed Term 2-year contract.
  • Remuneration: Level 8 - from $132,445 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington with transition to newly renovated office at our Randwick campus, anticipated for October 2026

About The Role

The Project Manager plays a key leadership role within the Business Optimisation Strategy (BOS) Program, leading assigned workstreams across planning, development, and implementation. The position ensures delivery aligns with Program priorities, governance requirements, and strategic outcomes.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, the role builds and maintains strong stakeholder relationships to drive key deliverables. It applies specialist project management expertise and sound judgement to identify, assess, and mitigate delivery risks, manage dependencies, and resolve complex issues.

The Project Manager translates Program priorities into structured delivery plans - managing risks, dependencies, resources, and stakeholder engagement - while providing high-quality advice to support effective decision-making.

This role reports to the Senior PMO Lead and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the end-to-end execution of assigned BOS workstreams by partnering with technical SMEs, delivery squads, and cross-functional teams to align project roadmaps and business priorities.
  • Establish workstream scope, key milestones, and technical deliverables, managing project schedules, resource allocations, and financial tracking to ensure on-time, high-quality execution.
  • Direct external partners, software vendors, and contractors, overseeing performance SLAs, financial commitments, and vendor accountability to resolve operational blockers efficiently.
  • Proactively manage technical, operational, and workplace safety risks, tracking critical dependencies, risk registries, and project artefacts to ensure full alignment with university governance standards.
  • Spearhead collaboration across academic and operational units through targeted workshops and engagement sessions, ensuring strong stakeholder alignment, continuous process improvement, and clear business outcomes.
  • Deliver strategic advice, risk evaluations, and actionable reports to senior executive stakeholders while upholding organisational governance protocols and institutional standards.
About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline, alongside substantial professional experience, or an equivalent blend of education, training, and technical expertise.
  • Demonstrated history (5+ years) driving complex technology initiatives through the complete project lifecycle within large-scale, matrixed enterprise environments.
  • High-level written and verbal communication abilities, featuring keen attention to detail and a proven capacity to translate intricate technical concepts into clear, practical strategies.
  • Exceptional stakeholder alignment and interpersonal skills, with a consistent record of building productive partnerships across all organisational tiers and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Solid commercial and financial acumen, encompassing hands-on experience with budget oversight, resource forecasting, and modern project management software platforms.
  • Superior time management and self-direction, paired with a strong dedication to UNSW values, institutional governance frameworks, and workplace safety standards.
