About UNSW

At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work. We aspire to be Australia’s global university, improving and transforming lives through excellence in research, outstanding education and a commitment to advancing a just society.

About The Role

The Project Manager plays a key leadership role within the Business Optimisation Strategy (BOS) Program, leading assigned technology and operational workstreams across planning, development, and implementation. The position ensures delivery aligns with Program priorities, IT governance standards, enterprise architecture, and strategic outcomes.

Working closely with cross-functional IT delivery teams, vendors, and business stakeholders, the role translates strategic goals into structured technical delivery plans. It applies specialist project management expertise to navigate dependencies across cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), systems integration, software delivery lifecycles, and modern application ecosystems.

This role reports to the Senior PMO Lead and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end planning and implementation of assigned IT and technology workstreams, collaborating with enterprise architects, software engineers, vendors, and business SMEs to ensure aligned execution.
  • Define workstream scope, technical deliverables, and milestones, maintaining detailed delivery plans, resource forecasts, and budget oversight across complex software and systems initiatives.
  • Oversee technology vendors, system integrators, and software suppliers, managing contractual deliverables, performance SLAs, expenditure, and technical dependencies.
  • Identify and mitigate technical, delivery, physical, and psychosocial risks early, ensuring alignment with UNSW IT governance, cybersecurity principles, and project controls.
  • Facilitate engagement between technical delivery teams, business operations, and academic stakeholders to support smooth systems transition, testing, quality assurance, and benefits realization.
  • Provide high-quality technical advice, status reporting, and risk insights to project leadership, supporting effective decision-making across the software development and deployment lifecycle.
About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with a focus on Project Management in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with substantial professional experience leading complex technology and software delivery initiatives.
  • Proven track record (5+ years) managing IT projects across the full lifecycle within large, matrixed enterprise environments, with exposure to cloud architectures (e.g., Microsoft Azure) and systems integration landscapes.
  • Strong familiarity with modern software development lifecycles, API ecosystems, testing frameworks, and IT governance protocols.
  • Exceptional vendor management and commercial acumen, with practical experience managing technical suppliers, project budgets, and resource allocation using project systems and tools.
  • Advanced stakeholder management and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between technical engineering teams and non-technical business leaders.
  • Outstanding time management and initiative, with a strong commitment to UNSW values, governance policies, and physical and psychosocial safety standards.
