Job summary

Little Cookies ELC in Newcastle is seeking an Early Childhood Educator to plan and deliver play-based learning that supports children's development across cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative domains. You will create safe, inclusive environments reflecting each child’s interests and build strong relationships with families and colleagues.

You will observe and document learning, inform programming, and support health, safety, wellbeing while adhering to NSW ECEC regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience applying play-based pedagogy to promote development across cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative domains.
  • Ability to observe, document and assess learning to inform programming.
  • Knowledge of EYLF and NQS frameworks and NSW regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate play-based learning experiences.

  • Build relationships with children, families and colleagues to support belonging.
  • Observe, document and assess learning; inform programming and identify needs.
  • Support health, safety and wellbeing per centre policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with educators and families to support children with additional needs.
  • Communicate progress and wellbeing to families regularly.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation per ECEC regulations.
  • Participate in professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with centre operations, setup, cleanup and maintenance of learning environments.

About the role
Key responsibilities
  • Plan, implement and evaluate play-based learning experiences that promote children's development across cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative domains
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that reflects the interests and needs of all children in your care
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with children, families and colleagues to support each child's sense of belonging and engagement
  • Observe, document and assess children's learning and development to inform programming and identify areas of need or extension
  • Support children's health, safety and wellbeing by adhering to all centre policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, including duty of care responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other educators and families to support children with additional needs or developmental concerns
  • Communicate regularly with families about their child's learning, progress and wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with early childhood education and care (ECEC) regulations and centre requirements
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice
  • Support the overall operations of the centre, including setup, cleanup and general maintenance of the learning environment
What we're looking for
  • A current Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain these within three months of commencement)
  • Current or willing to obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) as required by NSW regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development, learning theories and play-based pedagogy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • A genuine passion for early childhood education and a commitment to supporting each child's individual needs and strengths
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute positively to the centre's culture and operations
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standards (NQS)
  • Experience working in a regulated childcare or early learning environment is highly desirable
