Job summary

Inner West Council in Sydney is seeking a Digital Experience and User Experience Specialist to design accessible, intuitive, user-centred experiences for customers and staff. You will apply UI/UX expertise across Council websites, intranet and forms, informed by user research, analytics and feedback.

The role requires strong WCAG knowledge, information architecture, prototyping and ongoing collaboration with stakeholders to translate findings into design improvements.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in user experience, interaction design, communications, information technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying user-centred design, user interface and user experience principles to websites, intranets or comparable digital experience platforms with research, usability testing, IA, prototyping and translating findings into design recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG and inclusive design practices with proficiency in design/prototyping tools.
  • CMS experience and understanding of website development principles, with commitment to best practices and accessibility.
  • Experience using analytics and user feedback to identify improvements and write clear design requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to explain design decisions to non-specialists and coordinate with stakeholders.

The Digital Experience and User Experience Specialist position support the delivery of Council’s Digital Experience vision by designing and enhancing accessible, intuitive and user-centred digital experiences for customers and staff.

You will provide specialist User Interface / User Experience design and accessibility expertise across Council’s website, staff intranet, forms and assigned digital initiatives, drawing on user research, analytics and feedback to understand needs and identify opportunities for improvement.

$115,437.92 p.a. - $128,100.96 p.a. + 12% Superannuation

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in user experience, interaction design, communications, information technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying user-centred design, user interface and user experience principles to websites, intranets or comparable digital experience platforms and solutions withundertaking user research, usability testing, information architecture, prototyping and the translation of findings into design recommendations.
  • Strong working knowledge and demonstrated application and assessment of web accessibility standards and inclusive design practices, including WCAG with proficiency with appropriate design and prototyping tools, including relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications or equivalent..
  • Demonstrated Content Management System experience and sound working knowledge of website development principles with commitment to continuous learning principles, equal employment opportunities, risk management, work health and safety, quality customer service, and ethical practice principles.
  • Experience using analytics, search data, user feedback and other evidence to identify and prioritise improvements with working with vendors and preparing clear design requirements, specifications, recommendations or acceptance criteria and understanding of contemporary web content, SEO, responsive design and emerging digital technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering digital change initiatives and projects, coordinating stakeholders and managing competing priorities with highly developed written, verbal and visual communication skills, and strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to explain design and accessibility decisions to non-specialists.
