Job summary

Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a Team Leader - Development Services to supervise a skilled team of assessment planners and specialists, ensuring timely, accurate evaluation of development proposals with exceptional customer service.

Lead a culture of continuous improvement, mentor staff, and build strong stakeholder relationships while upholding safety and council policies throughout the assessment process.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related field.
• A current Class C Drivers Licence and General Construction Induction Card (NSW).
• Extensive experience in development assessment, particularly in complex matters.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to mentor staff.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to mentor staff and improve processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage a specialist team, ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic goals and objectives.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and actively seek innovative solutions to enhance service delivery.
• Uphold workplace safety and well-being, ensuring compliance with Council policies and safety laws.
• Build strong partnerships with external stakeholders, including community groups, contractors, and government agencies.
• Foster an inclusive and diverse workplace, respecting all individuals and their experiences.
• Implement performance measures to maintain accountability and identify potential risks.
• Encourage professional development opportunities for team members through Council’s training programs.
• Utilise resources effectively, focusing on sustainability and safety in all operations.
