Next Day Recruitment is seeking a Design Draftsperson for a 6-month contract in North Sydney, focusing on structural and mechanical design for mining and water sector equipment. You will own design projects technically and liaise with engineers, sales, and suppliers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop concept and layout designs with engineers for detailing.
• Model components in SolidWorks (90%) and AutoCAD (10%).
• Draft plant equipment, tanks, silos, bins and belt filters.
• Design structural steel and support structures, update drawings.
• Perform basic hand calculations and checks.
• Review drawings from other design teams and detail as needed.

Design Draftsperson (Structural & Mechanical Design, Drafting)

Client & You:

Large engineering services and equipment supplier (heavy industrial and process plant equipment for mining and water) employing 500+, North Sydney based.

They need a Design Draftsperson for a 6 month contract covering plant and structural design. Would suit someone with 2 to 5 years in a drawing office who knows the relevant AS standards and codes.

You own your design projects from a technical standpoint, working with the Design Engineers and Senior Draftsperson, and liaise with sales, project managers, aftermarket and manufacturing suppliers on design scope.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Concept & Layout designs. Develop design concept and layout drawings with the engineers, for detailing by yourself or others.
• Mostly 3D modelling of components, around 90% SolidWorks and 10% AutoCAD.
• Plant Design. Design and drafting of process plant equipment, tanks, silos, bins and belt filters.
• Structural Steel fabrication and support structure designs, both new design and updating existing drawings (pipework, roofing, stairs, walkways, platforms).
• Calculations, basic design calculations by hand. No complex engineering calcs.
• Check project drawings produced by other design teams. Detail drafting as needed.

What You Need:

• 2 to 5 years in a similar structural and mechanical design / drafting role.
• Strong SolidWorks, with 2D and 3D AutoCAD.
• Plant and structural design experience, mining or water sector ideal.
• Working knowledge of AS standards and codes ideal.
• Tertiary engineering qualification.
