Job summary

The role focuses on 3D CAD in Inventor or SolidWorks, detailing and drafting of mechanical and structural assemblies, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing efficiency and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3D CAD design, detailing and drafting in Inventor or SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

• 3D model steel base frames, support frames and structural assemblies.
• Model tanks, platforms, walkways, stairs and access systems.
• Mechanical equipment layouts, pumps, compressors, pipework and P&IDs.
• Electrical interfaces and LV systems. Fit enclosures, switchboards and cable trays into the design.
• General arrangement drawings and fabrication ready shop drawings.
• BOMs, weld symbols and steel detailing.
• Design for manufacture to enable efficient workshop build.
• Cross discipline coordination with electrical and mechanical engineers and workshop supervisors.

An Australian engineering and manufacturing business that designs and builds medium to large fabricated steel equipment in its own workshop, for industrial and infrastructure projects.

This is a hands-on 3D design role for an engineer or experienced draftsperson who enjoys practical engineering. The equipment you design gets built in their workshop. The current designers say that is the draw, seeing their designs come to life.

Engineers and designers who have come from a fabrication background do well here, as do engineers with a passion for design and drafting.

What You’ll Be Doing:

3D CAD design, detailing and drafting in Inventor or SolidWorks. Designing mechanical components and structural assemblies, working closely with workshop teams, engineers and project managers to deliver buildable, efficient solutions.

• 3D model steel base frames, support frames and structural assemblies.
• Model tanks, platforms, walkways, stairs and access systems.
• Mechanical equipment layouts, pumps, compressors, pipework and P&IDs.
• Electrical interfaces and LV systems. Fit enclosures, switchboards and cable trays into the design.
• General arrangement drawings and fabrication ready shop drawings.
• Bills of Materials, weld symbols and steel detailing.
• Design for manufacture, so the workshop can build it efficiently with minimal rework, allowing for lifting, cranage and transport.
• Basic structural and load checks, lifting points, transport and equipment mounting. FEA and CFD are outsourced.
• Answer workshop RFIs and revise drawings from fabrication feedback, mark ups and scope changes.
• Cross discipline coordination with electrical and mechanical engineers, project managers and workshop supervisors.
