Job summary

Novotel Sydney Darling Square is seeking a DemiChef to support our culinary team on a part-time maternity cover basis. You will work across buffet breakfast, Pumphouse Bar and restaurant, and in-room dining, contributing to high volumes of service.

You will join a professional kitchen under guidance from senior chefs, applying your commercial cookery training and passion for food to deliver consistent, high-quality dishes with attention to safety and detail.

Qualifications

• Teamwork and autonomy in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of cooking techniques and cuisines is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef de Partie and senior culinary team during service.
• Prepare and present high-quality dishes with consistency.

• Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure quality and yield.
• Ensure stock is rotated, stored and labelled correctly.

Working alongside our Head Chefyou will be assisting our culinary team with daily operational aspects of the kitchen and related outlets from buffet breakfast to Pumphouse Bar and restaurant to in room dining and function services.

What will you be doing:

• Supporting the Chef de Partie and senior culinary team during service
• Assisting with the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes.
• Maintaining food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards.
• Following recipes and portion control guidelines.
• Ensuring stock is rotated, stored, and labelled correctly.

If you are adaptable and like working in a busy high-volume Kitchen then this is the team for you.

What we are looking for:

• You will have commercial cookery qualification Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery.
• You will work well in a team environment as well as autonomously.
• A genuine passion for cooking and developing your culinary skills.
• Knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines.
• Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills with strong communication skills.
