Job summary

SeaLink Tasmania is seeking a Deckhand to join our Marine Operations team for the summer season, helping ensure safe berthing and unberthing of our vessels, and assisting passengers and vehicles on and off the ferries. You will perform cleaning, maintenance and inspections while supporting safety drills and emergency response as required.

Ideal candidates are safety‑minded, hands‑on, and able to follow instructions while communicating clearly with crew.

Qualifications

Shipboard safety awareness and a Senior First Aid certificate are essential.
Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand) is looked on favourably and support for training is offered.

Responsibilities

Berthing and unberthing the vessel in line with company procedures.
Handle ropes, wires and rigging for berthing operations.
Assist passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking, ensuring safe boarding mechanisms.
Carry out cleaning and housekeeping to keep the vessel presentable and ready to sail.
Assist the Engineer with routine maintenance and minor repairs.
Keep watch during poor weather and maintain accurate passenger counts.
Participate in safety drills and stay familiar with emergency equipment.
Conduct regular inspections and checks in line with company procedures.
