Job summary

SeaLink Tasmania is seeking a Deckhand to join the Marine Operations team for the summer season. The role involves safe berthing, handling lines and assisting passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking, with cleaning and routine maintenance to keep the vessel ready to sail.

You will work under the Master and Marine Manager, contributing to vessel safety, passenger counts, and emergency drills. Certifications in safety and first aid are essential; a Maritime Operations certificate is

Qualifications

• Safety-conscious and reliable, able to follow instructions and work hands-on.
• Clear communication with crew and passengers under changing conditions.
• Certificate I in Maritime Operations looked on favourably; will support progression to required training.

Responsibilities

• Berthing and unberthing the vessel according to procedures.
• Handle ropes, wires and rigging for berthing operations.
• Assist passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking safely.
• Carry out cleaning and routine maintenance to keep the vessel ship-shape.
• Assist Engineer with routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Maintain passenger counts and stay vigilant in poor weather.
• Participate in safety drills and emergency procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections and checks as per procedures.
