About the role

Make a meaningful contribution as a Counsellor by providing essential counselling services to both prospective and enrolled students, while offering educational consultancy and support to staff. This is a full-time, campus-based position, with the successful candidate working on site at Meadowbank Campus and undertaking travel to other campuses within the region as required.

About you

You are a degree qualified Counsellor, Social Worker or Psychologist who is passionate about supporting students to achieve their educational and career goals. You bring experience in delivering individual counselling and group work across educational, vocational, career and personal matters, and you're confident using assessments to help identify barriers and guide the best course of action. You collaborate effectively with teachers, coordinators and managers, offering advice, insights and consultancy to improve student outcomes, and you're comfortable designing staff development and delivering information sessions on more complex topics.

You manage your work with professionalism, ensuring your practice aligns with the standards of your professional body and all relevant TAFE NSW policies and procedures, maintaining accurate and confidential records while staying current with emerging educational, social, psychological and health issues affecting students.

You build strong networks with community agencies, make appropriate referrals, and contribute specialist expertise to programs for students with diverse needs. Above all, you reflect TAFE NSW's values, place students at the centre of your decision making, and balance competing priorities to provide high-quality, accessible and inclusive counselling services.

Key Requirements:

  • A valid Working with Children Check (required prior to commencement).

  • Appropriate degree from a tertiary institution and at least three years study in psychology, or other such study at the Employer deems appropriate, plus two years appropriate vocational experience.

  • Two years relevant recent counselling experience in personal counselling and educational OR vocational counselling.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as per business requirements.
