Job summary

La Coppola Wood-Fire Pizza in Redfern, Sydney, is seeking a skilled wood-fired pizza chef with a passion for food and opportunity for future management. You’ll join a small family-run restaurant with a friendly team and regular local patrons.

Responsibilities include dough preparation, dough stretching, pizza assembly, and training junior cooks while maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety. The role requires creativity for new pizza flavours and strong people skills.

Qualifications

• Experience with managing and cooking in a wood-fired oven.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cooking stations are sanitized and prepped with necessary tools.
• Prepare and store pizza dough.
• Prepare pizza sauces, meats, cheeses, fruit and vegetables for pizza.
• Ensure the restaurant and wood-fired oven are ready for service at 5pm.
• Cook pizzas in the wood-fired oven.
• Train other cooks in preparation to maintain meal consistency.
• Check quality of pizzas before serving to guests.
• Create menu items and develop dishes to ensure variety and quality.
• Be responsible for health and safety and food hygiene practices.

Job Description

La Coppola Wood-Fire Pizza is currently rated one of the top pizza places in Sydney area and we are looking for someone who has a real passion for food. If you are creative and looking for future management opportunties this could be a great fit. We are a small family-run restaurant, with a fun bunch of people who just love great food and our Redfern locals.

Our customers are mainly regulars who have also become part of the family. We are located in the heart of Redfern and a 3 minute walk from Redfern train station. Your experience will include:

Experience with managing and cooking in a wood-fire oven Experience stretching and making dough Experience making pizza

Experience in developing new pizza flavours Experience managing kitchen staff Strong problem solving abilities

Strong communication skills Your duties will include: Ensures cooking stations are sanitized and prepped with necessary tools

Prepares and stores pizza dough Prepares pizza sauces, meats, cheeses, fruit and vegetables for pizza Ensures the restaurant including the woodfired oven is ready for service at 5pm when opening

Cooks pizzas in the woodfired oven Trains other cooks in the preparation process so all meals are uniform Checks quality of pizzas before they're served to guests

Creating menu items, recipes and developing dishes ensuring variety and quality Being responsible for health and safety Being responsible for food hygiene practices

Ideally, you will have experience working with a woodfired oven and extensive experience making pizzas. You will be creative and excited to come up with new pizzas ideas for our specials menu which changes every 3-4 weeks. We are looking for someone with great people skills who is happy to get their hands dirty and help the team when necessary.
