Job summary

Bass Coast Shire Council in Wonthaggi seeks a community safety professional for a full-time fixed-term role to 15 August 2027. You will work with residents, visitors and groups to enhance safety, educate the public and support local enforcement across Bass Coast.

You will deliver responsive customer service, prepare compliance reports and assist with animal management and on-call duties, including after-hours and weekend rosters during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Experience in compliance, enforcement or local laws.
• Strong communication with diverse community members.
• Experience with animal management or related fields is preferred.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

In this diverse and rewarding fixed-term role, you'll work closely with residents, visitors, businesses and community groups to help enhance community safety across Bass Coast. No two days are the same. You could be educating pet owners, responding to local law enquiries, conducting patrols and investigations, assisting with animal management, supporting school crossings, or helping during emergency response and recovery efforts.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering positive, community-focused customer service and support.
• Educating and engaging the community through awareness campaigns and programs.
• Preparing reports, correspondence and documentation relating to compliance matters.
• Supporting the operation of Council's animal management and pound facilities.
• Participating in on-call, after-hours and weekend rosters, including support during emergencies and peak holiday periods.

A BIT ABOUT YOU:

You're a people person who enjoys working with the community and building positive relationships. You have a calm, professional approach and are comfortable dealing with a variety of situations, from providing advice and education through to investigating complaints and regulatory matters.

You'll bring experience in compliance, enforcement, local laws, animal management or a related field and strong communication skills and the ability to work confidently with a diverse range of community members.
